1 Download Postgres.app

This is the easiest way to get PostgreSQL on a Mac — just a regular app, no terminal needed.

Download Postgres.app →

2 Install

Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Postgres into your Applications folder.

Then open it from Applications (or Spotlight: ⌘+Space, type "Postgres").

3 Start the server

When Postgres.app opens, click "Initialize" (first time) or "Start".

You should see a green indicator — the database is running.

Postgres.app can start automatically when you log in — enable this in its preferences.

4 Install & open Option Commander

Go back to the Dashboard, download the macOS installer, and run it.

Option Commander will connect to PostgreSQL automatically and set up the database on first launch.

If asked for a PostgreSQL password, leave it empty — Postgres.app doesn't require one.
Make sure TWS is running before launching Option Commander.

Need help?

Postgres.app won't start? — Make sure you dragged it to Applications first, then open from there (not from the .dmg).

Option Commander can't connect? — Open Postgres.app and check the server is running (green indicator). Click "Start" if it's stopped.
